Today’s Block Schedule: 1-2-4-3

Standard: ELAGSE9-10RI3 Analyze how the author unfolds an analysis or series of ideas or events, including the order in which the points are made, how they are introduced and developed, and the connections that are drawn between them.

Learning Target: I can make connections between the author’s life and literary work.

Opening Session: Metacognitive Markers review!

! – Something that surprises you

* – Something you can comment on

? – Something you have a question about or did not understand

Work Session: Today we are reading an interview with none other than Chinua Achebe, the man himself, the dude who wrote Things Fall Apart! I would like for you guys to get into partners (not groups of 3…partners) and read this text together. One if you will assume the role of interviewer, and one of you will read Achebe’s answers.

This is a pretty long selection, so don’t forget to make those markers throughout the text so you can remember what you were thinking when we go back to it. When we finish reading, we will do the Second Read questions together as a group.

Closing Session: Debrief: Did anything surprise you in this interview?

Assessment: Informal (book check)

Differentiation: Process (Scaffolding)
