American Lit: What Is Freedom?

Standard: ELAGSE11-12W2b Develop the topic thoroughly by selecting the most significant and relevant facts, extended definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples appropriate to the audience’s knowledge of the topic.

Learning Target: I can apply definition strategies to new writing to create an extended definition.

Opening Session: Since we’re talking about freedom, here’s Pharrell Williams – Freedom

Work Session: VOCAB QUIZ!!!!!

After our quiz, we’re going to flip to page 56 in the textbook and read an extended definition essay called “What Is Freedom?” and I hope you like this format, because you get to write one next week!!

We will read it together, I’ll ask for seven volunteers, a paragraph each, and then I’ll ask you to independently do the Second Read questions.. Afterwards, we will come back together and do the Check Your Understanding.

Closing Session: We’re going to close out the day by looking at the Language Craft box, which focuses on transitions. You will be writing your first Embedded Assessment next week, so you should take note of how this essay was good or bad 🙂
